Difficult Fit Evaluation · Indiana & Georgia Studios

Difficult Fit, Personally Evaluated by a Master Tailor.

When standard clothing never seems to sit correctly, the problem may be posture, shoulder balance, proportion, or garment balance — not simply your measurements.

Fit Is More Than Chest, Waist, and Sleeve Length

Our Tailoring Philosophy

Clothing Made for Your Proportions

Ready-made suits and shirts are cut from standard size charts. When your shoulders, arms, chest, waist, or legs do not follow that chart, the garment fights your body instead of following it. At Lee’s Custom Tailoring, a garment is designed around one person — considering balance, proportion, posture, comfort, movement, and individual style.

The garment should fit the person.
The person should not have to fit the garment.

Standard Sizes Are Not Standard Bodies

Common Difficult-Fit Problems

These are some of the most common reasons standard clothing does not sit correctly. Recognizing any of these is a good place to start.

  • Uneven shoulders
  • Sloping or square shoulders
  • Forward posture
  • Erect posture
  • Prominent chest
  • Rounded back
  • Seat prominence / seat balance
  • Long or short torso
  • Left/right body imbalance
  • Body proportions changed over time
  • Jacket pulling or twisting
  • Sleeve hanging incorrectly

A Master Tailor Fit Evaluation

What a Master Tailor Evaluates

Fitting a difficult body isn't about making a garment tighter or looser. Master Tailor Jin Lee personally evaluates:

  • Posture
  • Shoulder slope
  • Shoulder balance
  • Chest & back balance
  • Front/back length
  • Sleeve pitch
  • Jacket balance
  • Trouser balance
  • Body proportion
  • Left/right asymmetry

Measurements tell us size. Balance tells us fit.

Why Measurements Alone Are Not Enough

Two People, Same Measurements, Different Fit

Two people can share the exact same chest, waist, and sleeve measurements on paper and still need very different patterns. The reason is posture and body balance — not the tape measure.

Client A

Same chest, waist, and sleeve measurements as Client B.

Upright posture — a pattern balanced for a straight, even stance.

Client B

Same chest, waist, and sleeve measurements as Client A.

Forward-leaning posture — a pattern rebalanced front to back for a different stance.

Illustrative example — not a specific client case.

How It Works

Master Tailor Fit Evaluation Process

Jin Lee personally evaluates the fit throughout — not a single step is handed off.

  1. 01

    Observe

Jin Lee looks at how you stand, move, and carry your shoulders before a single measurement is taken.

  2. 02

    Measure

Precise body measurements are taken by hand.

  3. 03

    Evaluate Balance

Posture, shoulder slope, and left/right balance are assessed alongside the measurements.

  4. 04

    Adjust Pattern / Garment

The pattern — or an existing garment — is adjusted to match your body's balance, not just its size.

  5. 05

    Fit & Recheck

The fit is checked again in person, personally, by the Master Tailor.

The Master Tailor is personally involved in every step of your evaluation.

A Closer Look

Shoulder & Posture, in Plain Language

A jacket rests almost entirely on the shoulders. A few simple factors decide how it hangs from there.

Shoulder Slope

How steep or level your shoulders are affects how a jacket's shoulder seam sits and hangs.

Left & Right Balance

Shoulders are rarely perfectly even from one side to the other — a jacket has to account for both.

Posture & Balance

Standing more upright or more forward changes how a jacket balances from front to back.

Sleeve Position

Arm position and shoulder posture both affect how naturally a sleeve hangs at rest.

Body Balance

Examples of Body-Balance Factors We Evaluate

Fit involves more than circumference measurements. Depending on the client, proportion, posture, and balance can affect how a garment sits and moves.

The factors below are examples. What is evaluated depends on each client.

Shoulder Slope

Left and right shoulders are not always the same. Shoulder slope affects how a jacket hangs, balances, and sits across the upper body.

Forward Neck / Posture

Neck position affects collar balance and the way the upper body of a jacket sits. A more forward or more erect posture can require a different pattern balance.

Waist Depth / Seat Prominence

Seat prominence changes front-to-back body balance. A fuller or flatter seat can affect how trousers and the lower part of a jacket hang.

Two Paths Forward

Custom Garment or Fit Correction

Depending on what you already own, one of two paths usually makes the most sense.

Custom Garment

For clients who want a new garment built around their body and posture from the start.

Master Tailor Fit Correction

For quality garments that may be worth correcting rather than replacing.

Not every garment can or should be altered. Evaluation always comes first — no repair outcome is promised before Jin Lee has personally inspected the garment.
