Master Tailor Jin Lee
Jin Lee is a certified Master Tailor with decades of tailoring experience. A second-generation tailor, Lee began his training as an apprentice at age 13 in 1967, in his native South Korea.
In 1980, Lee presented his workmanship to Korea's Ministry of Labor and was honored with the Master Tailor designation. Three years later he became the country's first certified Master-Tailor Instructor — one of only a few individuals in Korea permitted to train his own master tailors. In 1985, Lee and his family emigrated to the United States, bringing decades of craftsmanship to Indianapolis.
Today, Lee continues to personally suit Indiana's top executives, television personalities, and professional athletes of the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts — while training his own son to become a third-generation tailor.
“Custom clothing begins with a person, not a product” — a philosophy Jin Lee has carried since he began tailoring in 1967, thirteen years before he earned the Master Tailor designation itself in 1980. What makes Master Tailor different from other custom tailoring shops?
Master Tailoring Since 1967. At my shop, I do everything carefully to work toward the right balance, proportion, comfort, and fit:
- Accurate Measurements – I take precise body measurements to help achieve the right balance, proportion, comfort, and fit.
- Fit Consultation – I use sample suits to show you how the final suit will fit and explain the details.
- Technical Adjustments – I create a custom pattern based on your body shape and preferences.
- Tailoring Process – After finalizing the pattern, I send it to my working room, where my team carefully makes your suit.
- Final Inspection – Once the suit is complete, I check every detail to make sure it meets my high standards.
- First Fitting – You try on the suit, and I check if anything needs improvement.
- Quick Adjustments – I make small adjustments when needed to refine the final fit.
I do not just sell suits — I check every detail before you take your suit home.
What is your starting price for custom garments?
Pricing depends on the garment, fabric, and details you choose, so I prefer to go over it with you personally during your consultation rather than publish a general number that may not reflect your project. Schedule an appointment and we’ll go over everything together.
How many times do I need to visit for a custom suit?
The fitting process is kept focused and efficient, with the number of visits depending on the garment and individual fit. I focus on achieving the right balance, proportion, comfort, and fit from the start.
Is there a warranty on my custom suit?
My suits are carefully made around your individual fit. That’s why it’s very important for you and me to work together and communicate clearly when placing your order. Once the order is placed and work starts at the factory, it cannot be canceled or refunded. However, changes can be made before the factory starts working on your suit.
What if I am not happy with my suit?
If there is a problem, I will do my best to fix it. I always set realistic expectations from the beginning. I focus on getting it right from the start so your suit fits well without endless alterations.
What if I’ve had a bad experience with another tailor?
If you have had a suit made before, bring it with you. Show me what you like and what feels uncomfortable — this is the best way for us to understand your needs. If you don’t have experience with custom suits, bring a suit from home and tell me what feels good and what doesn’t. This will help me make a suit that fits you best.
How can I trust your quality?
Some people ask if I make in-house bespoke suits. Right now, this is almost impossible in the U.S. The biggest difference in custom tailoring is who takes your measurements. If a tailor who understands pattern-making measures you, the suit will fit much better than if a salesperson without tailoring knowledge does it. Even if two suits are made in the same factory, the fit will feel very different depending on how measurements were taken.
